Saturday, January 10, 2015 - At dinner after a tasting of ten 2003-2011 Bob Foley wines, from Robert Foley, Padis, Switchback, including pinots, syrah, cabs, merlots. Most of these wines were very dark and huge, with very big tannins. This Cayuse was equally concentrated and dark, totally opaque. However, the nose was completely different, with coffee-mocha, leather, meat, black fruits, quite complex. Perfectly balanced fruit, full-bodied but acid and tannin well in the background...viscous and tastes which developed and changed on the palate over 30 seconds, some smokiness and anise. The finish is very long, also very complex. Always outstanding...a wonderful Oregon syrah!

1/10/2015 10:11:00 PM - I also thought the vineyards and winery were in Walla Walla, Washington...until I went there in November and saw the vineyards and winery for myself. The winery, which they call the Production Studio, is at 53863 Sunnyside Rd. in Milton-Freewater, Oregon; and the vineyards are also in Oregon. En Cerise is located a short distance away on Co650 Rd.(Prunedale Rd.), and across the road is En Chamberlin vineyard on Chamberlin Lane. Check it out on Google maps: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Cayuse+Vineyards+Production+Studio/@45.958101,-118.4268019,16z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x54a25cb2d853bb47:0x29b7c98b3237f8c1?hl=en.
En Cerise vineyard is next to Reynvaan's "In the Rocks" vineyard, from which most of their syrahs come (the Reynvaan winery itself is in Washington, southeast of downtown Walla Walla). Both En Cerise and In the Rocks vineyards are across the street from the new Horsepower Vineyard, Baron's newest venture.
Just look at the back label of the Cayuse bottles...it clearly says Milton-Freewater, OR. What IS located in Walla Walla is their office, on Main Street. Therefore Cayuse syrahs are actually grown and made in Oregon.
