Thursday, September 17, 2015 - Now here's a wine that does not avoid the downside of 2011. Oddly dark and ripe and sweet in fruit profile, but it lacks concentration, has a strong green note, and turns bitter and short on the finish, with gritty tannins. Nothing here to suggest Chambolle. This is not very good, and the third disappointing 2011 Fourrier I've had.

9/19/2015 5:22:00 AM - If you want to try a good Fourrier from 2011, try the village Gevrey VV, the Combe aux Moines or of course the Clos St Jacques or the Griotte.

9/19/2015 5:43:00 AM - I've had the Gevrey VV and the Cherbaudes, both were disappointing. I could imagine the vineyards like CSJ and Griottes that get riper being more successful in 2011, when full phenolic ripeness seemed hard to achieve.

9/19/2015 11:53:00 AM - Combe aux Moines and CSJ are the best Fourriers I've tried from 2011, both very good wines in light of the vintage. What's scary is the huge difference in quality between those domaine wines and this negoce (given that the Echanges and Combe aux Moine cost the same), if this was representative of the fruit quality of the negoce bottlings I'll be looking elsewhere in the future.

9/21/2015 6:48:00 PM - I have had the Gevrey village VV on a number of occasions and have enjoyed it consistently. The Cherbaudes is very good in 12 and not as good in 11. It is one of the more variable of Fourrier's cuvees, at least in its youth. The negoc wines are another story. I have had them all in 11 and in 12. None of them have elegance and balance of the grower wines. The Echezeaux is the best and I have some good bottles and some not as good. The Clos Vougeot is hard and unyielding. Maybe better with time. The Echanges -- we have discussed that already -- its is not better in 12. Oddly, perhaps the best of the negoc wines is the Bourgogne Rouge (not made in 11, started in 12).
