Thursday, November 5, 2015 - Browns Suck, Wines Don't (Thursday Night Edition) Ferrand, Sinegal (My Basement): I had this from barrel, but the bottles just arrived and I thought I would drink this over three or fours days. This is being written after day 2. Its a new winery and I knew this would not be ready so my expectations were tempered. This needs time but should be a great wine. Purple in color. The nose has cassis, chocolate, cocoa and some spice. Plenty of oak. Blind, i thought it smelled more like a great merlot than Cab due to all the chocolaty notes. On the palate, this has a great texture. On night 1, it was very tight, but on night 2, it opened up. There is still a ton of oak on it, so if that is an issue, give it time. Between the fruit, the balance and the texture, I have no doubt this comes together in a more seamless wine. I am glad to have a couple more of these.

11/11/2015 2:30:00 PM - Thanks for posting the notes on the Sinegal wines. I've been back and forth as to whether or not these wines will end up in the "epic" arena of Napa Cabernets. I noticed your reference to Bevan's wines (which I am a huge fan of), so maybe Sinegal is worth it?! Thanks!

11/12/2015 4:33:00 AM - I actually had the last glass of this on Day 5. It had been sitting on the counter in my cellar. It was better than on Day 2. Still a lot going on, but this will need time. I think Bevan wines will drink better young than this one, but the quality is absolutely there. Like all wines it seems, I worry where the price is headed, but at these prices I am delighted to have more in the cellar!
