Monday, March 28, 2016 - I thought this wine would hold up better and perhaps bring on some more development. Didn't really happen and my guess is there is not enough structure to get around the corner. Aromatics were light. A bit of dried flowers. Really have to coax it out. Every so often a glimps of something nice. Perhaps improving with air. Mid palate is pretty juicy. Dark cherries. Finish is getting better but is a bit bitter. The acid is there but the wine is very soft. And with the flavors being aggressive it needs more structure. One of those times when I look back at my original note and say, why didn't I just drink them all then.

3/29/2016 10:48:00 AM - I had a much different experience with this same wine this past weekend. I am curious...was this in a temperature and humidity controlled cellar? Did you have it since release? I'm not being critical but I would love to understand this variation, as it seems there are widely divergent views on this wine. It could be a stylistic issue? I prefer Burgundian wines to Cali style Pinot Noir...but that doesn't seem to be a consistent determining factor either. Please advise...Cheers!

3/31/2016 5:39:00 PM - This was delivered upon release to my wine locker in Cali so it should never have seen anything undesirable. I tend toward Burgundian style as well and knew that Wells was making a change with this vintage towards that style. Not sure why we had different impressions. For me it might be that the 06s just did not suit me in general. Happy that you enjoyed the wine more. I still have another bottle, so I'll give that a go. Cheers!
