Monday, April 4, 2016 - My sister really enjoyed but I'm not a fan.

Dark purple color. Bell pepper (pyrazines), black cherry on nose. Blackberry, black cherry fruit primary palate with some herbal undertones - Medium+ body, medium- acidity and medium finish. I had a hard time getting over the nose on this wine. Would not purchase. 87+ for my palate.

    2/7/2017 8:47:00 PM - CWILLIAM, Bell pepper compound is a pyrazine, not pyrizine. Ironically, I smell it often in red wines from Chile, for example Santa Rita Carmenere 120 and Cabernet. I am curious as to why grapes are expressing a pepper compound. The two plants probably diverged hundreds of millions of years ago... For me this is a serious defect in a wine. I like bell peppers in my salad, and chili peppers in my chile, but not in my wine.. -Winedupe

    2/8/2017 7:11:00 PM - Winedupe - good catch on my poor spelling - I meant "pyrazine." I agree with you that a fair amount of wines from Chile share this characteristic (especially in cooler vintages). This bell pepper aroma was over the top and would be a flaw - the palate was nice on this wine though.

    I disagree that the presence of pyrazine's (bell pepper aroma) is always a flaw - it's really the degree of the aroma - in minor amounts it can be described as "herbaceous" and provides complexity.
