Sunday, September 4, 2016 - I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with this Zinfandel. I was somewhat tired of the varietal as I find them to be a bit too sweet and jammy. This 2012 Jessup Zinfanel is neither of those. I let this decant for about 45 minutes and it opened up beautifully. There was somewhat of a residual sugar bite, but then it really softened on the palate as I tasted more and more. This definitely has a nice smoke note with almost a coffee/espresso tinge.
I think this wine would be really good with a hearty chili or a rack of lamb. Drinking very well now, but definitely has some aging potential too.
