95 Points

Sunday, December 11, 2016 - Cotat, Jermann, Bonneau, Janasse, Giacosa, Rampolla, Clos Mimi (Downtown Akron): What a treat. I think Dave, who brought it, hoped for more and was disappointed. Expectations. I liked it a lot. Amazingly purple dark and bright in color. Not a whole lot different than a 2012 Janasse side by side. My wife commented on the wide clear edge of the glass. No browning or rust color. There is a fair amount of brett on the nose. More sweaty than barnyard. It did not blow off and got stronger with air. For me it was not obtrusive or problematic in any way. There is also a dark cherry note, spice and even some violets peaking out from underneath. Amazing after 15 years. The brett does carry thru to the palate a bit. There is a nice complexity here especially after some air time. Really shows like old school CdP which I love. Great with my pasta dish. Thanks Dave!

12/11/2016 8:33:00 AM - Great comment -- I just bought one at auction, so you would count me as someone happy it seems young, but also hoping it might ultimately be more of a thrill ride than a 2012 Janasse (I love the 2009 Chaupin). Did you decant before drinking? Do you think it will evolve into something more impressive, or does it feel like this is where it's going to stay?

12/11/2016 8:43:00 AM - We did not decant. I think at this point, there will be bottle variation. This was really good, but Dave said a prior bottle was better.
