Thursday, May 18, 2017 - Had the 2005 and 2007 side by side. Honestly, the hype on these wines is out of control. I'm not sure on what basis wine pundits, including several on this forum, are prognosticating that these wines will live forever and improve. There's no history much past the 2001 vintage and all through this period, Keller has been "learning". Good marketing job at a minimum.

The 2005 has a pretty but somewhat weak floral nose with a faint streak of pleasant petrol. On the palate, despite being decanted for several hours the wine lacks the attack or the length of the 2009 vintage. Interestingly, just like the 2006 vintage, the wine has no legs on the glass and seems to form some droplets that disappear soon enough.

Overall, a pleasant enough wine but there are countless dry rieslings that offer significantly more pleasure and intellectual stimulation.
