Tuesday, November 7, 2017 - Mid-red, narrow but aged rim. Initially reduced with a spike of acid lift. Opens up and relaxes after about twenty minutes. Complex yet elegant bouquet. Pretty spices from the new wood, a touch of something dry and mineral maybe even peppery, darker-skinned stone fruits. This whispers rather than shouts, but is elegant and constantly changing. Medium-bodied at most, slightly redder fruit profile than the bouquet suggests. Occasional hints of violet and pot pourri contrasting with the slightly creamy fruit. Beautiful acidity keeps this all in a compact envelope and gives it a long and elegant feel. Nice length with only a hint of very fine tannins which appear in the mid-palate rather than the finish. Structurally this is Burgundian style wine, being more about the acid than the tannin. Drinking well now, the acidity will keep it going and time may reveal more, but I get a sense that this is it. Drink now to 2024.
