Sunday, February 25, 2018 - 4th of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level, nearly back to its best, pure black cherry, weighty and long, if without the added complexity of the Rampolla Riserva in this vintage, scope yet to improve. F (17.5).

2/26/2018 4:12:00 PM - What wine do you refer to as Rampolla Riserva?
To the best of my knowledge rampolla doesn't bottle a Riserva.

2/27/2018 1:07:00 AM - Rampolla produced a riserva in 97 and 98. my reference is to the 97 and my note on my 23 rd bottle is on this site about 2 weeks ago.

2/28/2018 8:05:00 AM - I had no idea, and I love when that happens.
I Wonder if it has a touch of Cab, as many Chianti Riserva then, and Rampolla is so capable in using Cab while maintaining a tuscan feeling (Alceo and Sammarco)
Would be fun to taste vs Fontodi's Vigna del Sorbo '97 as the estates are so close.
Thank you for getting back to me!

2/28/2018 11:39:00 AM - From recollection up to 10% is cs.....if so, it gives the sangiovese the backbone to age so well......until about 5 years ago I found this wine oversized, slightly too sweet and broad, now it's in the bracket of I didn't know sangiovese could be so refined and nuanced. incidently, I find the Sammarco merits long aging as all the late 90s wines are getting more interesting. The Alceos are just fab! Best, Liber
