Community Tasting Note

Monday, December 10, 2018 - One more enthusiastic note on this beauty, which I seem to find with pleasing regularity on restaurant wine lists. This bottle added some smoky depth to the crunchy, textured, dark red fruit, green pepper, graphite and slate notes I've previously highlighted. Give it a hard decant, or (if you have the time) let it breathe for 3-4 hours.

You seem to be the perfect person to ask this question. I have this wine in double magnum format and 2008 Mastroberardino Taurasi Radici Riserva Antonio in double magnum format. I want to open one of these for my 70th (this year) birthday and one for my 75th birthday. Which one would you open first? I have had bad luck with double magnums and do not want to open one past it’s prime.

For what it's worth, and I don't think you can go wrong here, I would go for the Paleo Rosso this time and save the Taurasi. Give whichever one you choose plenty of air, post your notes and most importantly: enjoy these momentous occasions. Best wishes!

Looks like I will be opening the Paleo Rosso this September. Hope that is not too soon. What do you think? Reading tasting notes on the other double magnums I have it seems the others should wait a bit.
