2009 Carlisle Zinfandel Papera Ranch

Community Tasting Note

Wednesday, March 27, 2019 - Carlisle once occupied a large portion of my cellar but that is no longer the case due to palate shift. This is one of the lone bottles from a case that survived the cull. These wines are not my style but they clearly occupy the apex of the big Zin pyramid. Overripe, heady, alcoholic, but so so seductive with creme de cassis, slate, creosote, olive tampenade, licorice, lavender. The palate is sweet with earthy spice driven berry compote, supple tannins, and crisp acidity. Carlisle has always structured their wines so well, this expression is no exception. Their wines are exceedingly ripe but they have always pulled off the style well.
