Friday, August 1, 2008 - I was very taken by the first bottle I tasted of this in about 2003. Incredible fruit: so much so I bought several cases. But it has turned out to be infuriatingly inconsistent - some bottles meeting expectation (eg. at my wife's birthday dinner- thank the Lord), others falling considerably short. Bottle variation? Root days and fruit days? Drinking it during its dumb phase? Who knows? But tonight, it is was lovely mature bottle of claret. The fruit is there but it now has a more complex palate: earthy? leathery? minerally? Above all, it is a balanced moreish wine (with roast chicken and trimmings which was one sprout short of a Xmas lunch).
