2011 Saxum James Berry Vineyard

Friday, June 28, 2019 - Double decanted this bottle about four hours prior to consuming. 2011 is a vintage at Saxum I can really get behind. This wine is ripe yet edgy with a more savory driven style than you typically find from this estate. The nose is like a fall barbecue in the south of France. Intoxicating aromas of wild berries, creosote, lavender, charred meat, and cherry wood. The palate is so well balanced with vibrant ripe fruit, firm tannins, and tremendous complexity for such a young wine. I would like to see Saxum go more towards this style but I imagine the typical customer and usual vintage characteristics would clash with that premise.
