2007 Vérité Le Désir

Community Tasting Note

94 Points

Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 2 hrs of air. Cherries, chocolate, very strong scent of cloves, undertones on bell pepper on the nose. Syrupy in the mouth, with strong taste of cherry and blackberry. Slightly heavy with alcohol. Lots of very fine tannins. The sweet edge and strong aroma of cloves convinces you that this is not St Emilion but New World. To me that's actually an asset since it makes Verite its own experience. I remember when this stuff was a little over $100 a bottle, and at that time it was worth it, hands down. Now, at $400+? Not so sure. Nevertheless, a really gorgeous CA blend.
Score: 94-95. Relative to expectations: +

However I found a few for under 300 on the secondary market which was totally worth it for me at the time.

Seems like wine just keeps getting pricier and pricier as certain brands become more established.

The wine is undoubtedly well made and a pleasure, and if I had to try to justify the price it would be that the wines transcends imitation of St Emilion; it is distinct and stands on its own merits with its own personality. And that should be defended in the heavily corporatized and consolidated wine world of today.
