Tuesday, October 22, 2019 - Tasted both the regular and Tardive cuvees single blind over two days, bottles simply recorked and refrigerated. Day 1: Similar dark fuchsia maybe slightly more dense, also insanely vibrant. The nose is certainly primary with that Gamay grapiness but there is some complexity of blackberry, herbs, violets, and slate. The palate is a little more full and rich here with attractive purple fruit, stoney minerality, firm yet approachable tannins, and crisp acidity. Superb balance with ideal fruit density and lingering complexity. Initial impression is this wine has the stuffing and density to age beautifully. Day 2: Certainly more rich and savory today with the beautiful dark berry compote balanced by floral and herb nuances, chewy yet ripe tannins, and fresh acidity. Overall Impressions: I am leaning towards this wine being the Tardive because of the darker fruit and higher density and structure. This wine is simply gorgeous and I can only imagine it getting better with the tannins resolving and complexity popping with age. Yes this is the Tardive and the dark savory character is spellbinding. First experience with 2018 Beaujolais and Roilette has knocked it out of the park. The wines are rich yet elegant with fresh acidity, appropriate fruit density, fine tannins, and youthful complexity. I do not get an impression of overripe or sweet fruit at all with these wines. The amount of pleasure derived from the modest Gamay delivered by this estate is staggering.
