Friday, April 10, 2020 - Ruby with slightly watery edge. Very pretty cork that was barely retracted. Aromas of barnyard straight from opening, but this blows away quickly. After an hour and a half in carafe, it is characterized by a dark fruit image in the direction of dark plums and blueberries. Also anise and a pretty clear mark of mint. With even more air this really shines, with aromas of red flowers, leather jacket, roasted coffee and fresh autumnal forest floor. A very different expression than one might expect from a 2003 St.Emilion. No signs of the hot summer, only 13.5% abv, and leaning to the classical side of the spectrum. Good acidity, too. The tannins still bite, but it begins to get a more relaxed and mature mouthfeel. Good concentration and a delicious and long finish. Drinks well now, but good bottles like this one will probably last for another 10 years. This is nothing less than a really good East Side wine from a troubled vintage.
