Wednesday, October 29, 2008 - The 1999 Fanti is a monster of a wine. Super concentrated with thick chewy tannins, loads of blackberries, cassis and glycerin with just the right amount of acidity. This is a huge wine that sill needs plenty of time. As the tannins soften the 99 Fanti should prove to be one of the superstars of an excellent year for Brunello di Montalcino.

The brunello hybrid of the sangiovese grape has really been shown to have star power with the wines that have come out of Tuscany. Over the past decade or so this grape has really shown its versatility with some estates getting back to quality and producing 100% sangiovese Super Tuscans.
