88 Points

Saturday, March 13, 2021 - Early days for this one. very aromatic on the nose with verbena soap, mandarins, fresh lime peel. On the palate sweet mandarin fruit attack followed by a little bitter grapefruit kernel and peel finish. Perfect texture! good freshness. Not all together yet. Save for 3-5 years and drink with food, perhaps grilled swordfish or tuna with some fresh salsa. Like many of these verdicchios the qtr is great compared to many other famous white wines of the world. 88 now but potential for 90 points later on for sure.

4/13/2021 5:27:00 AM - turbiana? trebbiano? I'm confused by the varietal designation here. love verdicchios too! qpr of both is often great.

4/13/2021 11:04:00 AM - Thx for commenting! yes, super confusing. Turbiana and Trebbiano di Lugana are other alias for Verdicchio. NB Ca Dei Frati makes a slightly more expensive wine, the Pratto, which is not as much Verdicchio and I actually prefer the cheaper I Frati Lugana (i.e. this wine). I never have the patience for storing these wines for as long as my Italian brother-in-law and more knowledgeable wine friends tell me is needed to bring out the real inherent complexity in these Italian Verdicchios be they from Lugana or Castelli di Jesi or Matelica. Simply too delish and inexpensive and food friendly to keep around for too long.
