93 Points

Wednesday, March 17, 2021 - excellent once again, everyone around the table really enjoyed it. beautiful aromatics, sappy red berries and minerals are lifted by well judged acidity (93-94)

3/17/2021 9:30:00 PM - I have had the 07 Sentiers many times. Have gone through a few cases at least. We did a blind tasting of Fourrier Griotte, Clos St. Jacques and Sentiers 07 (pouring half of the Sentiers into a 750 Fourrier bottle to avoid the bottle size ruining the blind aspect). Five experienced tasters all thought that the Sentiers was by far the best. All picked it out. We confused the Griotte and the Clos St. but not the Sentiers. I have had the wine in 09, 10, 11, 15 and it has never been as good as the 07. I don't think that the vines are 100 years old. I think that they were around '61. Great reviews on the wine. Could not agree more. Have a case in Europe and a few other bottles left.

3/18/2021 4:02:00 PM - Great perspective thanks....I agree Fourrier did an excellent job in 07, I remembered liking the CSJ as well, so that’s interesting the Sentiers was clearly better. It’s too bad other Sentiers vintages don’t live up to the high bar this one set....I have felt Fourrier can be variable, and that other 09s and 10s haven’t been quite at the level I was hoping. The 14s are beautiful IMO.

3/18/2021 9:05:00 PM - The Griotte takes a long time to come around. The 09 is just getting there and the 10 is probably a bit behind. The 09 Sentiers can be excellent but not as good the 07. The 12s were excellent and I thought that Fourrier made great 11s. The Sentiers 11 needs more time, more than the Griotte or Clos St. Jacques. The 13s are light but have developed some style, particularly the Clos St. Jacques. Have not tried the 13 Sentiers. One tip to look for is the Chambolle Musigny in short crop years when Fourrier does not make a Sentiers, such as 12 and 16. In those years, the Sentiers goes into the Chambolle which is low production wine anyway. As a result you get a wine that is maybe 30% Sentiers plus or minus at a village wine price.

3/19/2021 3:44:00 PM - Good info....I have a few 07 Griotte and CSJ and I agree they’ll last. I’m generally not a fan of 11 and 13, and at these prices for red burgundy I no longer experiment in vintages I don’t like, but maybe I will try some 12 to see. If you haven’t had their 14s I’d buy one....I think Fourrier did better than average that year.

    Enjoy!
