Friday, April 30, 2021 - 3 days in Napa: Arkenstone, Memento Mori, Maxem, The French Laundry, Christopher Tynan, Kinsman, Harlan, Vice Versa, Accendo, Fairchild, Macdonald, and a truckload of others (Napa): Barrel sample. On the nose, this was notably more austere and muted compared to the others sampled. On the palate, the reservation of flavor parroted the nose, with an overly measured delivery of black cherry and some vanilla notes. With air, it begins to posture as though it will erupt with the typical gobs of Crane fruit juiciness one is accustomed to, but then it closes back up and turtles its way into its shell.

All the stuffing made for greatness is lurking, but tonight it preferred to be coyer (that is, ‘coy’ from a Vice Versa Dr. Crane standpoint). The profile still shows decidedly Crane, but the expression and expansion of flavors are held at bay. Luckily, Cristal2000 had this not too long ago when it was giving up all the goods. So, I look forward to revisiting this in the future.

5/1/2021 8:00:00 AM - Hi jonboy. It was a great three days indeed! I missed Lite by a few weeks actually. He was a couple weeks before me. I was with fellow CT’ers Cristal2000 and scballfan. I hope to connect with Lite sometime soon.

5/1/2021 9:38:00 AM - Hahaha. I'm beginning to sense this already! Just the kind of wingman folks like us need, right?! I'm hoping a number of us can all get together at some point and really have a weekend of dangerous wine follies!

5/1/2021 10:13:00 AM - Absolutely. He is saving me from myself in a way, at least I stopped buying mediocre wines! Just noticed you are in the Bay Area, if you are on WineBerserkers and are interested in meeting up for a tasting or something in the future, shoot me a PM - I'm JonathanG on that board.
