Sunday, May 2, 2021 - I was expecting this to be a bit of a gimmick and was pleasantly surprised to find and elegant and well made wine with a fair bit of character. While it has plenty of structure, Lack of developing tertiary characteristics make me wonder whether it has much more in it, but I’ll give it a few years in the cellar and see.

Decanted for ~1 hour before drinking and tried again the next day without an enormous change.

Very deep color, ruby, signs of age beginning to appear

Not overpowering, but very elegant aroma. Violets and roses, soft plum, a little bubblegum (whole cluster?). A touch of breadiness suggesting fairly gentle oak maturation. Not much in the way of tertiary aromas.

Medium + acid; very prominent, but fairly soft tannins. Full but by no means overpowering body. Fairly long finish. All of this suggests a rather “big” wine, but in fact it’s not. Not a ton of fruit flavor - some sharp-ish cherries and ripe blueberries - a lot of that floral flavor and a bit of coconut & woodiness from the French oak. Again, no real tertiary flavors.
