81 Points

Thursday, December 2, 2021 - Trying really hard to make sense of this wine.

Pours like brown motor oil with bricked edges. Seems to me like it has aged in a lopsided manner... the fruit has faded leaving behind an empty husk of sandpaper tannins, cartoon vanilla oak and alcohol heat. I thought it was basically undrinkable but never got around to pouring it down the drain.

So a couple of weeks later, I decide to try it to see how it's changed and it's changed for better and become semi-drinkable... tannins are softer, alcohol isn't as hot, the vanilla isn't as garish, but the fruit tastes like this is a 40 year old, semi-oxidized wine.

I hate this spot... it's not enjoyable, but it's now not horrible enough to just pour out. Oh well.

I imagine this was way better when it was released.

In any case, 15.5% is ridiculous for this wine.

12/22/2021 3:00:00 PM - Great note about this mysterious wine. To your point that it might have tasted better when it was released, I can tell you it tasted just as you described. I have one bottle left that I plan to save until 2025 or later to see if evokves into a drinkable bottle. It wasn’t very good when I had my initial bottles about 5 years ago.
