Friday, December 16, 2022 - First bottle of a case bought at auction. 80% merlot, 20% cabernet franc. PnP. I am drinking it now. Pristine bottle with mid neck fill, perfect capsule, label and cork suggesting good storage. It looked inky purple on the pour but held against light is dark garnet with a hint of brown at the edges. The moderately intense nose is enticing with clean dark fruit. Mouthfeel and flavor are absolutely mind blowing. This is a special wine. The intense, clean, pure dark fruit is balanced to perfection by silky smooth tannins with no rough edges. I would not decant this as you can't improve on perfection. Pnp only. The finish lasts 30 seconds but the incredible flavor of this wine stays in the mouth for minutes. The nose on the second glass is more intense. I keep raising my score since this is now perfection. This is honestly better than an "89 Lafite I just finished. I'm not sure how it will get better with age, just older. In a cool cellar it should plateau for 3-4 years (maybe 10) but I plan to drink it all before then. Don't push your luck. I have never seen a wine improve beyond perfection. It is a 100 point wine. But if I do that my credibility will suffer. I am hoping the next 11 bottles will be the same. Salud.
