Friday, April 17, 2009 - I've heard and seen reviews of wine described as having a bacon fat smell/taste and I always thought that was nuts. Well I finally smelled and tasted bacon fat in a wine. The nose is spicy, blackberry, vanilla, raspberry and yes bacon fat. The taste is even more apparent, I could actually detect smoked bacon on the pallet along with plum skin, strawberry and pepper. This wine is fairly complex. I thought there was a nice balance of sweetness and tartness to the tannins. Loved it.
