Saturday, April 1, 2023 - Merlot from Napa at this price point is something to behold, but there's no doubting the quality in the bottle. From Ecotone Vineyard (formerly Thorevilos of Abreu fame), this is the first nearly pure merlot wine I've had from anywhere not on the right bank of Bordeaux. Lots to like here.

Rose petals, blackberries, plums, herbs and hints of spice box provide entry into a juicy, powerful yet well contained wine. Very fresh, bright and elegant, there is wonderful layering, good acidity and a fun to drink quality that makes it irresistible. Next to the 18 Englehard Cab, this was less serious, more plush and opulent. Nice earthy character on the finish. Not sure about the QPR, but the wine is excellent.

4/6/2023 9:48:00 AM - Thanks! Awesome notes as always. You in or out, though (asking for both merlot and cab)? You don't have to answer if you don't want to btw :P

4/6/2023 9:59:00 AM - I took at run at the Merlot, because I need more Cab like a hole in the head. It won't be an automatic purchase by any means at this price, so vintage to vintage. I am very curious about the upcoming 19 Las Posadas Cab.
