2021 Château Branaire-Ducru

Community Tasting Note

Tuesday, April 25, 2023 - En Primeur campaign for the 2022 vintage Day Four (Bordeaux): Creamy, more blackcurrant than plums, a tiny green note, dialled back sweet spice. Medium plus intensity acidity is juicy, fresh, crunchy black fruits, a little rhubarb, married to talc textured persistent tannins, long with a little green note joining on the finish but, for me, absolutely lovely

12/26/2023 8:23:00 AM - That’s a very positive TN for your „rating“ and seems much improved from last year. I anbremstest to subscribe for a case at 43 euros - reinforced by your comment. Also very divergent from Lewe and VV as often with your comments, but this time in a different direction. Interesting.

12/26/2023 2:19:00 PM - Thanks for your note, Bobbylion

I think context may help a little here: On both occasions that I tried the wine it was shown as part of a line-up with other vintages from the same producer, and the second time that I tried it the evolution of a year had really helped the wine. In general, I think that the 2021 vintage has quite a few hidden gems which will be at a reasonable price (being surrounded by 'stellar' vintages). The final piece of context is to say (not that I really need to) that tasting is subjective and (always) influenced by other factors...For instance; I'm a fan of Branaire Ducru so would always look on their wines slightly more favourably (even though I don't want to) unless I'm trying them completely blind.

    cheers & happy shopping, chatters

12/26/2023 3:42:00 PM - Sorry. Should have been Leve. These are the other two notes on this in 2021. Anyway, I will subscribe to this just to see the difference - that’s the only other case of 21 I will take. Concentrating on 22.

You almost always diverge from those two tasting the same wine - Jeff Leve and VVwein.ch I realize I will be able to tell in about a decade if this was a good call, God willing and everyone is still alive:)

12/27/2023 2:54:00 AM - Ahh, yes, sorry - I realised that once I wrote that...

Well, I suppose with utilising other people's notes it's best to find someone who, when you taste the wine, you identify similar characteristics and have a similar opinion, I guess.

    cheers, chatters

12/27/2023 3:56:00 AM - Branaire-Ducru is a great wine to have a positive bias for. I find that it is consistently good in the less stellar vintages. Thanks for the note and comments, reinforces my purchase, one of the few EP
    I still buy

that is very kind of you...it will probably come as no surprise that I have quiet a few Bordeaux producers that I find perform in this way 😃

    cheers, chatters
