Thursday, May 25, 2023 - Domaine Arlaud’s 2012 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru from Les Ruchots was a showstopper. Taking a whiff of a nose filled with lots of smoke and strawberries before being poured into the decanter while we enjoyed champagne, my excitement was palpable. Trying the bottle soon thereafter a palette of those ripe strawberries, red cherries, earthiness and herbs/spices emerged in a light bodied, but matured Morey-Saint-Denis. Backed with bright acidity and a silky finish, this wine was both balanced and complex, pairing perfectly with a meatier sea bass on the night.
