Saturday, May 30, 2009 - Decanted 4 hours. One of the most distinctive new world pinot noirs out there in both aroma and taste. Amazing complexity for such a young wine. A lot of producers claim that their pinot has minerality, but I find that few really deliver on that promise. Rhys does. Sounds crazy, but you can actually smell the rocks in this. Black raspberry, Sonoma Coast-like spice, and an underlying steeliness that continues throughout. Go lick a lead fishing weight and you'll know what I'm talking about. Fine tannins provide welcome structure. Bonus points for individuality.
