Tuesday, September 5, 2023 - Tasted at Cristom Winery tasting room. Marjorie vineyard still has a significant portion of own-rooted vines that are gradually being consumed by phylloxera. I gather the vineyard has been gradually being replanted on grafted, resistant rootstock. This vineyard has a higher percentage of Pommard clone Pinot Noir. It was fermented 48% whole cluster and aged 18 months in 38% new French oak. For some reason, this wine is usually my favorite cru from Cristom. This has great structure for aging. Medium+ to High acidity and Medium+ tannin. I love the lightness of texture yet depth/density of flavor in this wine. Lots of minerals on the finish. Rich flavors like pomegranate, black cherry and spice. Long, slightly tart finish. Needs some cellaring in my view but others might disagree.
