Monday, September 5, 2016 - Terroir-istes International - Australia-Penfolds Mini Verticals (Klein Constantia): (Tasted Blind):Deep ruby-black wine with lifted notes of chocolate, dark fruits, blue flowers, wafer biscuits, liquorice, mocha, menthol, and eucalyptus. There are hints of tertiary, savoury elements with tree bark, meat, undergrowth, and liquorice.
An opulent entry, the wine offers plenty of depth, is full-bodied and with fine-grained tannins. Robust with a lingering menthol presence through the mid-palate, it is enriched by molasses, brown sugar, rusty nail, damp earth, damson, forest fruits, and a hint of pastilles.
Well structured and solidly framed.
