Saturday, January 27, 2024 - Although from a less reputed vintage, this is a delicious and ultra-typical Riesling in a feather light, low alcohol (8%byV), sour-sweet style in which the Germans are so strong. Very pale yellow color with a greenish hue and a smell and taste bursting with white and yellow fruits (peaches,kiwis,pineapple,lychees,citrus….),a pronounced minerality and an intense,wonderfully spicy,sour-sweet finish. This is a real treat! This wine is already irresistible now but can age for many years, gaining more complexity.
On their website the owners proudly state that this was the oldest (since 1720) and first vineyard to be planted entirely with the Riesling grape and moreover that the Spätlese-style was created there.
Once again however I have to make a critical remark about the pricing-policy of some wineries. I paid this wine 27,50€ in Belgium while on the domain’s webshop it was offered at 45,00€. Potential buyer, beware!
