Thursday, March 21, 2024 - This is an interesting wine. All the grape varieties are unusual or rare. Light to medium ruby color, medium- body, medium+ acid, 14% alcohol, which blew off once the bottle was open for a while. Definitely not fruit forward. Nose was very herbal, garrigue, mint or maybe menthol, anise/fennel and more and more earthiness as it opened up, by the end very forest floor even funky, mushroomy. The palate was similar to the nose, with more emphasis on the fennel and funk, adding a spicy, peppery finish and, as it warmed up, a cherry/cranberry note. A nice long- finish. I enjoyed revisiting this as we first tasted at the lovely vineyard in the Minervois. It falls into the same rough category as an old world, complex Pinot Noir.
