Saturday, April 27, 2024 - 93: Mouthwatering bouquet of candied plum and blackcurrant. Beautiful deep red-purple color with no sign of browning. Thin, fast legs on the swirl. Cork showed a lot of crystalization but the bottle had surprisingly little sediment for its age. Just slightly on the thin side of moderate mouth feel, with a bit of tannic astringency up front that mellows through a medium-long finish. Dark berry and spice flavors throughout, plus a pleasantly herbal note in the finish (cedar? sandalwood? something "masculine" at any rate). Paired nicely with a rosemary herbed steak and balsamic vegetables. This probably could have remained cellared for another dozen years and been unbelievable, but it was time to free up some space in the cellar. Still, it rates as one of the best wines I have had the pleasure to drink.
