Tuesday, August 11, 2009 - My first experience with SQN, and it fell a bit short of my expectations. Opened about 3 hours prior to consumption; a very dark and opaque purple color. A powerful but relatively one-dimensional bouquet, with ripe dark fruits in spades, a good dose of spicy oak, and a hint of roasted meat. A big wine, with great concentration and flavor, but without the velvety texture, delineation, or complexity that I had expected. Still, this was the WOTN for just about everyone (except me!) at my birthday dinner; I preferred the '95 l'Evangile, which we had with the previous course.
