Friday, August 14, 2009 - I was surprised by this wine, and it shows that while 2000 Napa as a vintage is not well regarded, there were outliers. This had a large nose of bright dark fruit with some earth, cedar and leather notes. Very nice. On the palate this had great blackberry and kirsch flavors; this wine aslo had a noticable green, mostly green olive note that went well with the wine. While not my favorite example of Phelps' Insignia, this was quite enjoyable and the wood and tannins have come together in this bottle, and it is ready.
