Wednesday, August 19, 2009 - Drank this blind against 2 other Cali Pinot competitors and three '06 1er Cru Burgs. This was the hands down winner. Beautiful whole cluster aromatics that went from rose petals to holiday spices (pumpkin pie, potpourri, etc.). Texturally, this was just as compelling as the Burgundies if not more so, with a mineral, rocky, savory character. Sweet red and black fruit on the palate with echoes of the whole cluster spice, with just enough acid to balance the density of fruit and tannin. Long finish echoing the palate characters, with a subtle hint of heat that is quickly subsumed by the intensity of the lingering fruit and intense spice. Superb.
