Wednesday, February 22, 2006 - Very (almost scary) dark. A 'Wow' wine from start to finish. Decanted about 90 minutes ahead, but no real hint that this was necessary as the 'sneak peak' of the sediment dregs was wide open at opening. The nose is awesome with dark cherry, bacon, smoke up front and then lots of things brooding in the back (chocolate, anise, flowers cassis (?), earth...). Palate has everything in nice measure with the aromas mentioned above layering out in a full, mouth coating way. Also the tannins come across in a minerally texture and the finish is long, complex and with food-friendly acidity. While this wine is at an awesome state now, I don't think there is reason to be in any hurry to drink them either.
