Sunday, October 25, 2009 - Very graceful wine with sophisticated restraint. On the nose, this wine felt completely Italian/Tuscan, I would not have guessed merlot; I would have guessed a Chianti or Super Tuscan. Then on the palate, this same impression follows. The wine feels like something I would happily have with pappardelle with cingiale. I think it's one heck of a disciplined merlot and a real contrast to new world examples. On the nose, the usual cherry/berry but very clean and proper. This follows on the palate with minute hints of citrius peel. Finish is medium. I think it is drinking nicely now with a fine meal, but it will get leaner during decanting and then the structure stands out a bit more in a mouth coating way especially on the finish.
