Sunday, November 1, 2009 - Good dark garnet color. No bricking, but a little thin on the edges. Nose is quite strong with casis, pencil shavings and menthol. Unfortunately the fruit on the nose doesn't carry through to the palate. After a one hour decant, there's no fruit but a lot of structure: tanins and acid. Everything is concentrated in the midpalate, no high notes or low notes. Very thin finish. There is a small amount of Pauillac cedarwood and pencil shavings but nothing ovewhelming. I know '94 was a challenging year, but according to the critics this bottle was supposed to really shine: underwhelming.
