Wednesday, April 7, 2010 - Fantastic Night of Old Barolo and More! (An excellent Vancouver restaurant): A great nose showing some dust and a bunch of new saddle leather. Very smooth on the palate with excellent balanced acidity. Quite lively for a 51 year old wine. As the wine sits, some smoke begins to show, which eventually morphs into some tar/creosote. This is an excellent old Barolo!

11/16/2017 11:09:00 PM - This wine is a fake. "1st vintage: 1965" and the label on mine is way newer than that.

11/23/2017 5:07:00 PM - LoireFan, thanks for your comment. This wine was tasted over 7 years ago, so I'm unable to respond very well. It most certainly was not fake - the bottle was bought for very little money in a mixed auction lot of old Barolo. They were all in great shape, and super-cheap...as old Barolo was back then, and still is to a degree. It might be that I got the cru wrong, but it was a genuine 1959 Rattti Barolo. Not sure what you mean about the label - I never posted any picture of my label. You'll have to take that up with Cellar Tracker.

11/23/2017 6:57:00 PM - It most certainly is fake! I wouldn't have commented if it wasn't. What is YOUR PROOF? Mine is that that ACTUAL WINERY says that wine didn't exist then. But hey, go check the winery's website yourself. (My bottle had an authentic-era back label but much newer front labels.) My guess is that it was basic Barolo, not the single vineyard, and not necessarily from that year.

11/24/2017 10:00:00 AM - This will be my last reply to you, as this is ridiculous. You think I have to prove to you what I drank 7 years ago? Foolish. If you had come on here and said "I think you are mistaken about Marcenasco since that cru was not produced in that year - perhaps you had the normal '59 Barolo?" - then I would have said you are probably right. All this stuff about a $50 wine being "fake" makes you look like a total crank. The wine was not fake, and NOBODY would bother to fake such an insignificant wine.

11/10/2020 6:51:00 PM - I regret to inform you Mr Curtis that the previous comment on the wine being fake might be very accurate. I know this takes away from the pleasure you had drinking it but according to the winery website, seems they didn’t make any wine until 1965.
