95 Points

Tuesday, August 3, 2010 - L 056 SECK. This opened up somewhat poorly with raisins on the nose and a shallow, simple, slightly sweet and limpid palate of weak cherry. Since I have been a big fan of this controversial wine, I was a bit worried. However the more this airs the more exciting this gets. Now 3+ hours later this has transformed. A screaming nose of VERY intense white pepper, a touch of heat, and some soaring cherry. Wowza, this sucker explodes from the glass. The palate is all funky, crazy and intense with hyper-cherry and more pepper. Pure, spicy, and powerful, this struts and struts with a tannic, Mourvedre driven finish. Despite all of the pure and ample fruit the structure is much more overt now than at any point when I have tasted this. Peppery, dusty, dry, and spicy, this has a load of tannin to resolve. Clearly not a wine for everyone, but I remain a big fan.
DAY 2: Well the remaining 1/3 of a bottle only improved with considerable integration of the tannins, no heat, and no raisin. This seems to have a lot of stuffing purity to go along with the overt ripeness.
