Wednesday, September 1, 2010 - Very dark purple. Lots of funky aromas on the nose like animal fur, iron, earthiness, and violets. I could also smell the alcohol right away. A lot of rustic tannins on the entry and then huge pepper, garrigue, an odd fig-like note, and dark rasberry fruit. As it warmed up in the glass I detected a pruney, overripe note that detracted. This may have been because it warmed up too much in the decanter. Lots of alcohol on the finish with that roasted note persisting. This showed I think the ripeness of the vintage, although I had not noted this the last several times I had this wine.
