Monday, September 6, 2010 - Flannery Steak Trial Run (The Lew Residence): Fragrant nose of tar, scorched earth, and very strong eucalypts nose with an edge of green pepper. Dark fruit profile, with plum and currants, and a little cassis highlight. Coarse, chewy tannins still prominent. Lengthy finish with a lava rock/scorched earth quality, toast, and coffee. Shows prominent earth flavors, with good fruit underneath, but the greenness kept this from being more enjoyable for me.
On day 2 this wine was more integrated, but still dominated by dark earthy flavors. Less green notes and little more meat and leather.
