Monday, October 11, 2010 - Moderate depth of color, moderate amount of extraction at the rim that has tints of bricking. Aromatically the wine is quite closed showing a little bit of fruit, little bit of dried herb, some funk, no obvious new oak use... on the palate the wine has moderate + acidity, a firmish midpalate that transitions into a moderately tannic finish, moderate ETOH. Wine is on the firm side balance wise with the hard elements of the wine (acids and tannins) exceeding soft elements (ripeness of fruit, ETOH), good length and intensity, there is complexity in there but all the elements of this wine are quite muted. Wine has finesse, is texturally appropriate, flowing but firm, good expression of place. Time in the decanter helped this a bit, the fruit became more defined, a little more funk... but the wine remained shut down all night. Tonight drinking "very good" with potential to be "outstanding," try again in 2-4 years.
