Saturday, December 4, 2010 - These guys know what they're doing in lesser vintages don't they. Superb wine. Previously drank from a 375 earlier in the year and found this hard to judge; but this bottle was magnificent. Took time to open up and evolved from funky barnyard, to graphite minerals, and then black cherries. Rich roasted black fruits on the finish that coated the mouth and just stayed and stayed. Lots of thick drying tannins in this wine, it should be one to cellar and enjoy its evolution for decades.
Drank this in a 2004 bracket that included L' Eglise Clinet (91), Cos d'Estournel (88), and Lynch Bages (90), and this Montrose beat them all by a greater margin than the points strictly suggest.
