Tuesday, January 11, 2011 - A blend of 35% Petit Verdot, 34% Merlot and 31% Cabernet Sauvignon from their small 11.6 acre vineyard from 44 year old vines located near the Margaux AOC. 90% of the wine is aged in French oak barrels (30% which is new) and 10% in stainless steel tanks for 12 months with the first 3 months on the lees. 1/2 bottle was tasted. Deep purple colored, Bolaire in my opinion is the atypical Bordeaux being very heavy in Petit Verdot. Surprisingly well balanced with an aromatic nose of cedar, ripe dark fruit such as black currant and plum. Medium to full bodied with good extraction, medium fine grained tannins, medium acidity, and a long lengthy finish. The bottle reads 11-14% abv which is very confusing but the alcohol feels like 13.5-14%. This is another solid Bordeaux which has probably reached its peak, if you like meatier larger styled Bordeaux's this wine is for you. About $18 US retail for the 1/2 bottle. Found it a Cal Mart in San Francisco.
