Wednesday, January 12, 2011 - decanted and poured, this wine required about 45 minutes of airing to show its best. The aromatics begin tense and restrained. Airing brings out a detailed blend of black cherry, tar, leather, cigar ash and earth notes. The color is a tarnished medium ruby that is correct for the wine age. The medium bodied palate starts restrained and lacking finesse. Over the course of consumption, the wine becomes more forthcoming and detailed revealing a rich core of fruit that combined mature and youthful notes. The wine finishes with acidity and tannins making an appearance. This drinks well now if decanted and given some time in the decanter.
