Wednesday, January 12, 2011 - Definitely not a Burgundian Pinot. The first impressions of this wine are very smoky and toasted. The smells of rhubarb, strawberries, black currents and spices start in the background but keep gaining momentum with air and time. On the palate both the smoky, rich notes of tobacco and the acidity of the fruit make for a rounded, balanced and intriguing wine that hangs out in your mouth for longer than you might expect. Tannins are present but not overly assertive, giving the wine backbone but letting the more subtle fruits shine through.
