Saturday, February 26, 2011 - Rhys Pickup Day (Rhys Winery, Santa Cruz Mtns.): Black fruit on the nose, but not super ripe, bit of olive and anise too. Similar on the palate, medium bodied with fresh black fruit, plums and currants, some savory notes, nice acidity and noticeable tannins. Unique syrah flavor profile in my experience... ripe black fruit but fresh and lively, not heavy. Great now but I think it will improve as the tannins soften.
